What is football freestyle?
Football freestyle is skilled football tricks advanced to a whole new level. Football tricks are small tricks executed to impress the few. Football freestyle involves larger moves executed in an improvised order according to the freestyler and the real test of skill is to do these without making a mistake. True freestylers will flow from one move to another without the viewer realising it. You could say football freestyle is the improvised but supercharged mutant version of football tricks.
The best example would be comparing it to break dancing. Both require skilled and impressive moves to prove your mettle. Both have no restrictions to the moves you can introduce and the more elaborate or difficult (and providing they are performed flawlessly) the better. It's cool to do and exciting to watch. Football freestyle was first given a stage during the Nike freestyle campaign in 2001 when a competition for sport freestylers was held. Owing to the huge success of this competition new freestyle sport events and awareness continued - one of those sports was football freestyle. 2003 saw freestyle awareness be given another spotlight as Nike held another competition in conjunction with MTV. The quality of talent doubled in the 2 years since the first competition. Further competitions to unearth talent and promotional events since then have helped put football freestlye firmly on the map.Today the level of football freestyle, at the top level, is physically demanding and requires an exceptional level of flexibility, fitness and unique skill before one can be considered an elite freestyler.
